The reason you are seeing different results there is because the first query uses the full text index, whereas the second query; having words ("AND") that are less than 4 characters uses the basic search method (by default; MySQL's full text index does not index words less than 4 characters in length).
The basic search method operates a logic AND by default (using OR does not generate satisfactory results!) so in order to maintain the benefit of full text searching (which is the relevancy sort - not all words have to present but if they are then the result is considered more relevant) I personally wouldn't recommend changing anything at this time; however if you did want to use basic searching making all queries use a full logic AND then you can disable the full text index by setting the plugin setting for $config_useFullText (wp-admin > Settings > PriceTapestry.org) to False...
