Change /shopping container page

Submitted by ajmboy on Sun, 2013-05-26 18:28 in

If I create a container page in wordpress say /parts/, it comes up but a 404 for merchant, category, etc. If I use the default /shopping, it works fine. Can I change /shopping for SEO purposes? Or is it because there is a trailing slash after /parts/ in wordpress..

Hi ajmboy,

It does sound like it is down to the trailing "/". This is controlled by your Permalink structure setting in WordPress, and the reason I recommend a format that _does not_ end in "/" is to ensure that optimised product pages such as /product/Product-Name.html can be created rather than /product/Product-Name.html/

You can change the permalink format from wp-admin > Settings > Permalinks, and then a container permalink of /parts should work fine (don't forget to create a Page with that permalink, which is what should be allocated automatically after changing the Permalink settings and then creating a new page it the title "Parts".

Cheers,
David.
