No results?

Submitted by quokka on Sat, 2011-10-15 05:47 in

Hi David,

Testing the WP plugin for the first time.
Looks promising as bot WP as PT are my favourite pieces of software :)

Looks like installed: {link saved}

> Browsing by link categories, merchants and brands works.
> Search for "buffetkast" returns no results
> Search for "wit" returns results

When doing same search fro "buffetkast" directly in the PT installation does return results:

Any idea why the WP plugin returns no results for most search queries while PT does?
(both by searchform as per shortcode there are no results for most queries)

Thanks in advance!
Bas

Hi Bas,

This looks like a full text threshold issue; and can happen when only a relatively small number of products has been imported and the query contains words that are > 3 characters long but appear in more than 50% of records;

I know you have been running the Price Tapestry installation for some time and this issue may have been covered locally but to confirm this is the case, go to wp-admin > Settings > PriceTapestry.org and then under the external heading set $config_useFullText to FALSE and I think queries should then return results as expected...

Hope this helps!
Cheers,
David.

Hi David,
As always, your solution worked.
Turning off fulltext did the job!
Thanks!

Hi David, I thought I would try the wordpress plugin but having a little problem. The default page shows the search box but doesn't display any results. When I use the search box it works fine as does the merchants, categories and brand links.

$config_useFullText is set to false as suggested. I am only using a feed with 15 products as a test at the moment.

Any idea what the problem might be?

Many thanks
Rob

Hi Rob,

Could you perhaps post a link to an example page (your default) page where no results are being shown but should be (I'll remove the link before publishing your reply) so that I can see the situation and I'll check it out for you...

Cheers,
David.

Hi,

(I did follow up by email but for the benefit of other users finding this thread)

For WordPress and Price Tapestry to be sharing a database the values for DB_NAME, DB_USER and DB_PASSWORD from wp-config.php must match exactly $config_databaseName, $config_databaseUsername and $config_databasePassword respectively in /pt/config.php. This should not cause any problems since WordPress uses a default database table prefix of wp_ and Price Tapestry uses pt_

Don't forget that you can use the Database Tool (/pt/admin/) if you need to move your Price Tapestry database - run a Backup before changing config.php; after making changes and re-running setup.php then do the Restore using the backup XML file and finally re-import all feeds...

The final verification to make is that if not using the default value for $config_databaseTablePrefix in , $config_databaseUsername and $config_databasePassword respectively in /pt/config.php that the corresponding setting in wp-admin > Settings > PriceTapestry.org is configured to match.

Cheers,
David.

Hi David,

I hope you don't mind my tagging a question on the end of this old post. I've just installed PT, downloaded and registered a few feeds and am having a problem with getting the search function to return any results. Browse works fine for merchant and category (although not for brand) but I can get nothing using search. It's not that I get a 'no results' message - I type a keyword and the box clears/re-sets itself.

I've re-checked the installation instructions and checked all the fixes above, the permalinks settings, and the .htaaccess files (non-techie's wild stab in the dark!) - nothing seems to be working for me so far. Is there anything else I could be missing? Would be very grateful for your help.

Many thanks, Lisette

Hello Lisette and welcome to the forum!

I've not yet come across the situation where the merchant / category indexes work but a normal query doesn't, please could you let me know the URL of your installation /shopping page (I'll remove before publishing your reply) and I'll check it out right away for you...

Cheers,
David.

Hi Lisette,

Nice looking site!

I did a search for "mp3" and it returned 1 result (Chicco I-Gym Multi Activity Play Gym Includes MP3 Connection) - is there a particular query you are trying that you think should be returning results but is not?

Cheers,
David.

Hi David,

Thank you for checking this for me. I just tried your query and had the same problem (search box clears) - then logged out of Wordpress and hey presto, the search function is working fine! Just looking for a wordpress forum post on the subject - found one related to another plugin (although not one I have installed). Have you come across this before?

Many thanks again, Lisette

Thanks Lisette, no I'd not come across that before it could be some interaction with the tool bar that is inserted above the header when logged into wp-admin together with your theme - I'll see if I can recreate it on my test server but thanks for pointing that out as it may help other users!

Cheers,
David.

Thanks David - I'm glad that at least logged out users are able to search OK, so that part of the mystery is solved! As for logged in users, I'll try and find out more and re-post if I find anything useful. It's not a problem for the Wordpress Admin (as long as they know about it) but I guess for Wordpress sites that will have a lot of interaction with their users (e.g. log-in to post comments/log-in only parts of the site, etc. it could be less good! Thanks again for your help - much appreciated!

Hi.

Just wanted to report back about the weird search problem I was having. I did a little digging and managed to fix it by de-activating my other plug-ins and re-activating one by one to see what was going on. In the end, it turned out to be an old e-commerce plugin that I still had installed which was causing the problem. Couldn't say more about the actual technical ins-and-outs other than that if anyone else experiences this issue, try de-activating all other plugins to check whether there is some bug/incompatibility.

Best,

Lisette

Got problem with WP. The category's are displayed. But if you click on it, the page isnt found. Same for search function.
I can give you a link of the website to see the problem?
