Dear Dave, thank you very much for contribution this plugin. Now I am testing. I installed following your guidance, but it did not work. It shows this in the page:

[PTO]"

What's the problem is?

Thanks

Hi Jeff,

That sounds like the plugin has not been Activated - is it showing as enabled in the Plugins section of your WordPress admin area and you have access to the PriceTapestry.org settings panel?

Cheers,
David.

Hi guys,

Firstly, thanks David, great job once again.

For anyone else, I have found [PTO] not to work either however, if you use lowercase [pto], it works absolutely fine.

Thanks again.

David,

Is there anyway I can use a conditional statement in functions.php to change the page title from Shopping to the product that I have created the page for?

It's just the is Shopping and I want that to be the product name.

Many thanks.

Hamish

Submitted by support on Mon, 2011-08-15 17:21

Hi Hamish,

A "standalone" product page (i.e. not under the /product rewrite) can have whatever title you wish, and then simply include within the body

[pto product="Product Name" prices="Product Name"]

...as required; or would you like to be able to change the name of the container page?

Cheers,
David.

Submitted by Bigmac on Mon, 2011-08-15 18:35

Hi David,

Yes, it's the container page I have been trying to change.

Cheers,

Hamish

Hi Hamish,

Pages can be untitled, but that means a menu item isn't created automatically on the home page. Let me know if that's a problem and I'll delve into whether it's possible to override the main title...

Cheers,
David.

Dave, how can change the columm in merchant, category and brand from 1 to many (ex. 5)?

Thanks

Jeff

Submitted by Bigmac on Tue, 2011-08-16 08:46

Hi David,

I am not wanting to not have page titles, what I am thinking about is the container page and duplicate content as well as the H1 tag.

The container page works fine if I have a keyword rich container name rather than shopping however, if I select Brand, for example, as I am using <title><?php wp_title(''); ?></title> the page title stays as shopping and the H1 tag remains the same.

It does that with all 3, merchant, category and brand.

Also, if I do a search and look at a product page, it has exactly the same (shopping) in both the page title and H1 tag.

I can send you an example but don't want to post here in case it's made public as it's a test site.

Does that make sense?

Cheers,

Hamish

Hi Hamish,

Sure if you'd like to drop me an email with example URLs I'll take a look, I think I understand but would be good to see within your theme / template...

Cheers,
David.

Hi David
On my new domain, I installed wordpress and activated the PT plug in.
Now do I still have to install the main PT in folder /shopping/ inside wordpress installation folder? e.g. example.com/shopping/
can i just copy the /shopping/ folder from my existing site (different domain). and update the setting in config files?

I guess my question is, where to install the main PT installation?
In a separate folder inside wordpress installation folder
OR
In the same installation of of wordpress?

Submitted by support on Tue, 2011-08-16 14:13

Hi,

Bear in mind that /shopping is only a virtual permalink generated by WordPress so contrary to what you might think actually that would be the only folder in which Price Tapestry should not be installed (because the WordPress .htaccess file uses the "does this file or folder exist? test, if not then handle internally) - and in this case you want it to be handled internally.

If you don't intend to use the Price Tapestry installation at all for this site, then simply install Price Tapestry into a folder, for example /pt/ that would be the best thing to use.

Cheers,
David.

David
Thanks for your reply.

What would be the best way to install PT main into /pt folder?

-can just copy the files & folder from my existing PT site into wordpress "/pt" folder, update config.php and run setup.php? OR

-Fresh installation

if i download the PT main from pricetapestry.com, does it already include the "New Distribution 12/10B" or i will have to update the new distribution on the top?

Hassan

Hi,

Probably best to start with a fresh installation; and then if you'll be using the same feeds, copy them across from your existing installation into the new /feeds/ folder; and use the Database Tool to backup the settings from your existing site and then restore them into the new site...

Cheers,
David.

Submitted by fstore on Tue, 2011-08-16 14:45

Thanks
i did the fresh install.
The is a new site focusing on different kind of products. so may be i dont need to transfer old database into this. However I would like to keep the old feed folder as central place for all the feeds. Can I give the full URL of central feed folder into the config-advanced.php of new site?

In setup new config.php as below

 $config_baseHREF = "/";
  $config_useRewrite = TRUE;
  $config_useRelated = TRUE;
  $config_useTracking = TRUE;
  $config_useJavaScript = TRUE;
  $config_useInteraction = TRUE;

I am getting this message, when ran setup.php, should I make UseRewrite to FALSE?:

Checking database connection...PASS
Checking database selection...PASS
Checking database tables...PASS
WARNING: $config_useRewrite is TRUE but .htaccess not found.

Setup Completed!

David
I was able to successfully install the whole thing. But how can I get the PT search bar on the home page instead of under shopping? like you have on your demo site.

have a look at my site
{link saved}

Hassan

Hi,

Yes, no need to use rewrite if it's not a user-facing installation, so use

  $config_useRewrite = FALSE;

To get the main search box / featured products etc. on your home page, all you need to do is add the main shortcode

[pto]

...to any content area that is promoted / published to the front page. On the demo site; it's simply the first ever blog post (so is on the home page by definition at the moment) and it contains the [pto] shortcode - simple as that!

hi david ... the installation was successfull.

1. how can i translate it ?
2. how/where can i edit the frontent output ... lets say searchresults or products (html/css).
in the original pt there are html files to edit.

thanks
alecs

Submitted by support on Tue, 2011-08-16 16:47

Hello Alecs,

The HTML is all now contained within the PriceTapestry.org settings page (from WordPress admin area), so you can make any translation / layout changes there. Any changes that require CSS, the plugin includes the file wp-content/plugins/pto/resources/pto.css where you will find class definitions equivalent to the declared classes in the HTML section of the settings page...

Cheers,
David.

ok works .... THANKS ... nice work !!!

Hi David

Very nice plugin - thank you very much for this :o)

I have recorded these issues:

1. If the merchant includes a space ' ' the the search is wrong because it replaces ' ' with an '-' - like 'merchant:Merchant-Hansen:'. The searchresult 'merchant:Merchant Hansen:' works correctly.

2. If an danish special charachter is used in the category name like 'dæk' then the search is translated to 'category:D%C3%A6k:' and result is empty. If I search for 'dæk' the search result is correct, but the word is translated to 'dæk'.
I have used iso-8859-1 in the pt installation and it is working great, and have also tried to change wordpress to iso-8859-1, but this makes it even worse.

Thanks for that Brian,

Posting permissions should be sorted now!

I was adjusting the normalisation earlier and that introduced at least your issue 1); please could you try the latest version, updated

pto.php
pto_common.php

David.

hi david...

is it possible to display the merchant names (and/or logos) in the searchresults ?
and whats about the extra fields (if created) - shipping / EAN etc. ?

thanks
alecs

Submitted by support on Wed, 2011-08-17 15:03

Hi Alecs,

Typically logos are not displayed in search results as they are generated as a summary query so unless numMerchants = 1 the actual merchant present in the "merchant" field is undefined.

It would certainly be possible to incorporate logos for that scenario, likewise additional fields (they're all there in the result of the query) What I would suggest if that's OK would be to wait for the beta phase to complete and then it would be easier to merge changes directly into the code; there have been a number of modifications in response to feedback already which I'll document and publish first thing tomorrow but I don't think we're far off - lots of people making great progress with the plugin already!

Cheers,
David.

Hi Dave,

This kind of new to me I wonder you can help. I have your PT and WordPress install on root of my domain. Both working fine, but one thing does not make sense to me is how do I make the pages I have created show the products.

For example, im WP install I have created shopping, brand, category so and so pages, with nothing in them. But lets say if the shopping page retrun searched item what HTML or WP CODE or PHP CODE I need to insert? I have tried putting [pto] but it only comes up with your PT search form nothing else.

I have tried to read your installation guide several times, it's so short - nothing in terms of integration iteself been mentioned. How would I go about creating a search page using [pto] them able to retun the search results on page like shopping. Same goes with Brand, Category etc...

Submitted by support on Thu, 2011-08-18 01:42

Hi sbedigital,

You shouldn't actually need to make any pages except for the container which is /shopping by default. On that page, you simply enter the shortcode [pto] and that is it!

You mentioned creating shopping (which is required) but also brand, category etc.; those are created dynamically by the plugin, so actually having created them I think will stop it from working correctly.

If you delete any other pages you have created as part of the installation except for /shopping, (don't forget to empty trash as well as the permalinks are reserved whilst pages are in trash) and then browse to /shopping you should find that the browse links (e.g. Merchant) now work, and you can look through merchant's products and view product pages - it's all created dynamically - there really isn't anything to do in terms of integration!

There are however a series of shortcodes which you will find on this page which can be used to bring Price Tapestry generated content inline wherever required; for example if you are creating a dedicated page for a product with lots of your own unique content, you can then pull in the price comparison table with, for example, [pto prices="Product Name"] but none of that is required just to get up and running.

If you're still not sure, drop me an email with a link to your installation (and if it's OK a temporary password for /wp-admin/) and I'll check everything out for you...

Cheers,
David.
